Rhiannon Jewellery : Rhiannon Pins & Tiepins

Rhiannon Pins & Tiepins at Welsh Jewellery

All of Rhiannon's designs are original - she has never used Celtic Art 'Source Books' and all of her work is her own. The designs are inspired by the beautiful landscape of Wales, and also by the fabulous Welsh and Celtic legends. More recent designs offer a modern spin on 'traditional' Celtic knotwork. Her work is distinctive and widely recognised for its high quality, leading to many prestigious commissions.

Triple Knot Pin (9ct Gold)

9ct Gold Triple Knot Pin, hand made by Rhiannon, the well known Welsh Jewellery Maker.

10x10mm

The triple knot is a perfect representation of the change from pagan Celtic mythology to Celtic Christianity. For the Celts, the number three had a special significance, but it was Christian monks who made an art form out of Celtic knotwork patterns, as they illustrated holy manuscripts with colourful and intricate images. The triple knot became a Trinity Knot, a kind of shorthand for the Holy Trinity, and it was used often on crosses and in religious books and buildings during the early Celtic Christian period.

* Please note that the picture is of the design only and may not accurately represent the item.

This piece is based on the typical Celtic Knot, formed from one continuous line, which appears on carved stones and in early Christian manuscripts. Rhiannon’s design has a beauty and balance superior to many larger and more complex designs. The pattern is continued on the reverse side, forming a true Celtic Knot.
This design is part of our Celtic Knotwork Collection. Knotwork is probably the best known and most familiar style of Celtic design, but in fact it was a late development in Celtic Art, adopted by the Celts from Eastern countries, then developed and elaborated by Celtic Christian monks from the 7th Century onwards. The intertwined patterns of never-ending lines appealed to the Celts, symbolising their ideas of eternal life and the intricate relationship of humanity with both the divine and natural worlds.
