This piece was inspired by fine 'Celtic styled' Knotwork designs in the Book of Kells and other early Christian manuscripts; various forms of triple knot patterns feature prominently as symbols of the Trinity, an idea which was common to pre-Christian Celtic beliefs as well as to the early Church. - This design is part of our Celtic Knotwork Collection. Knotwork is probably the best known and most familiar style of Celtic design, but in fact it was a late development in Celtic Art, adopted by the Celts from Eastern countries, then developed and elaborated by Celtic Christian monks from the 7th Century onwards. The intertwined patterns of never-ending lines appealed to the Celts, symbolising their ideas of eternal life and the intricate relationship of humanity with both the divine and natural worlds. This is a general description of the design.

Preseli Bluestone is a very special kind of stone, so much so that it was taken from West Wales and transported across Britain to build a magnificent stone age temple at Stonehenge. It is a hard granite containing quartz crystals, but when polished it becomes a dark blue/green with white flecks, reminiscent of the night sky, which perhaps accounts for its importance to our druid ancestors.

Its Welsh name is a relic of our pre-Christian beliefs, meaning literally ‘Buck of the Danáans’ - the Danáans are the inhabitants of the Otherworld in the Gaelic Irish tradition.

Rhiannon's Rhaeadr (Waterfall) designs are inspired by the rivers and rapids of Wales. Their flowing lines and coloured gemstones reflect the mesmerising play of sunlight on moving water, which may account for the magical qualities attributed to such waters in ancient times.
The collection uses 4 different cabochon gemstones:
• Amethyst (purple)
• Garnet (dark red)
• Labradorite (an iridescent stone with hints of green and gold)
• Nephrite (dark green)

The polished parts of this design are an exact representation of the famous White Horse of Uffington. It is one of the earliest Celtic art forms in Britain, thought to be of religious significance relating to the Celtic Goddess Epona. In the Mabinogion Rhiannon is mythologically associated with the horse and initially appears riding a magnificent silver-white stallion.
