Pearl Ivy Knot Earrings (Pewter)
SJ - PE358
|
Pewter openwork drop with a hanging freshwater pearl on surgical steel hook.
The Celts used knotwork to decorate many of their artifacts. To them, the intricate patterns woven into spirals and knots symbolise the continuity of life. Cultured pearls can be divided into salt water and freshwater varieties, and account for over 95% of world production. Freshwater pearls are grown in mussels when a nucleus of shaped mantle from another mollusc is placed inside. A mussel can grow between 10 and 20 pearls! Traditional metaphysical properties for the June birthstone pearl are modesty, chastity and purity. The pearl is also used to enhance personal integrity.

Flat Cross Earrings - Pewter
SJ - PE19
|
Pewter openwork Celtic cross drops on surgical steel hooks.
The Celtic cross symbolises the bridge to higher energies and planes of existence. It represents the relationship between the celestial realm (vertical axis) and the earthly plane (horizontal axis). The circle around the cross symbolises both the Great Wheel of Life and the solar energy. The tall shafts, like the ancient menhirs and the inscribed stones of the dark ages, represent the union between the earth and spirit, the stones firmly fixed in the earth and reaching upwards to the heavens. In this way it can be seen that Celts easily adapted their ancient religious beliefs to the new ones introduced by Christianity.
